Mesa Arch is an easy walk from the parking lot to Canyonlands National Park’s trademark view. It’s very busy because of it’s proximity to the main road, but everyone is pretty good about taking turns to catch a glimpse through Mesa Arch.
We didn’t manage to get out butts up for sunrise (had camped closer by and not had a 45 min drive from Moab, we probably would have), but we decided we wanted to see this iconic view of Canyonlands for ourselves since it was an easy little walk to start the day with.
It’s a short walk over small hill to the edge of the rim where Mesa Arch stands.
Honestly, Mesa Arch itself isn’t anything to write home about – it was actually much smaller and shorter than we expected. But once we crouched down and saw how the arch framed the sweeping view of Buck Canyon below and the snow-covered La Sal Mountains in the distance, we realized why photographers line up at sunrise at this spot.
It is definitely worth a stop if you are in the Island in the Sky region of Canyonlands National Park!
